SIAM Applied Geometry Conference 2013, August 1-4, 2013 at Colorado State University PDF Print E-mail

From [SIAM-AG] SI(AG)^2 News, November 2011 newsletter

Planning has begun for the next SIAM Conference on Applied Algebraic Geometry in two years.   Alicia Dickenstein will co-chair the program committee, along with the SI(AG)^2 program director for 2012/3 (see the election note below).  The  next meeting  will take place August 1-4, 2013 at Colorado State University and Dan Bates will chair the local  organizing committee.  We are planning for a larger meeting than the  last and exploring the possibility of expanding it to include a day of  tutorials before the meeting begins.

The inaugural SIAM Conference on Applied Algebraic Geometry was an overwhelming (in several ways) success.  It was held October 6-9 at NSCU in Raleigh, NC.  We had over 300 participants with over 250 talks, and a poster session.  The registration fees were significantly less than half that of a typical SIAM meeting, which is due to the hard work of the local organizers, led by Seth Sullivant.  We should also thank the program committee who selected the plenary speakers and helped to organize minisymposia.  Ultimately though, the meeting's success was due to the participants.

Finally, it is not too early to begin thinking about where to hold the activity group meeting in 2015.   Because of planning involved, it would be great to have proposals this time next year for the officers to decide at the beginning of 2013. There is a strong desire to host meetings outside of the US.  If you have suggestions or might be interested in organizing the meeting in 2015, please contact the current or future officers.
